Tetiana Yarmola, Tamar Engineering Project
The Tamar Engineering Project provides mentoring and financial support for students who want to embark on a career in engineering and who have shown potential for high academic achievement at A level, but whose background or personal circumstances may be a barrier to university study.
Companies that support the project provide both the financial assistance of a bursary and mentoring expertise to talented students to help them develop essential workplace skills and gain an understanding of the sector and the breadth of career opportunities open to engineering graduates.
There are 13 students currently being supported by the Tamar Engineering Project:
Benjamin Augustt, Jasmine Bradshaw, Elena Brake, Solomon Casey, Joshua Eshref, Morgan-Lee Jones, Sahar Khodabakhshi, Daniel Lake, Jamie Lee, Jack Tomlinson, Jessica Whitford, Tetiana Yarmola, and Yunus Yobas.
You can read profiles of some of those students below.

Welcome to our new cohort

“Being selected for the Tamar Engineering Project is an exciting opportunity to explore my interest in environmental robotics and gain a better understanding of the engineering industry.”

“I’m particularly interested in how robotics can help address environmental challenges, from improving recycling to tackling climate change. During my foundation year, I worked on a group project to build a sensor-controlled buggy, which encouraged me to develop my practical and technical skills further. In my first year, I hope to gain hands-on industry experience, learn from mentors and gain a clearer direction for my future career. Ultimately, I’d love to contribute to developing robotic systems that everyday people can use to make a positive difference to the environment.”
Jasmine Bradshaw, Robotics

“Being chosen for this award means a great deal to me both motivationally and financially.”

“The funds granted by the award allow me to not worry about finding a part-time job to pay for food and other necessities allowing me to spend more time studying without sacrificing time socialising with friends, or my sleep schedule. Receiving this award also makes me feel more comfortable thinking about the future as I will have a mentor to help me when I am struggling and provide me with advice from both a professional and personal perspective. Finally, this award means a lot to me motivationally as it feels like I have many people at my back supporting me and cheering for me, allowing me to put more effort into my work.”
Daniel Lake, Civil and Coastal Engineering

“Being part of the Tamar Engineering Project means a great deal to me, as it provides valuable financial support and encouragement throughout my university journey.”

“I am extremely grateful for the funding, as it helps me cover costs, such as books, field trips and placements, that will help me to not just succeed in my degree but excel. This support makes a real difference by allowing me to work fewer hours alongside my studies, giving me more time and energy to focus on my degree, develop my engineering knowledge and skills, and make the most of the opportunities available to me at university. I would also like to take advantage of opportunities to learn from experienced engineers, gain industry insight, and build connections that will support my future career. I am truly thankful for the support that the Tamar Engineering Project is providing and hope to make the most of the guidance it offers.”
Jack Tomlinson, Mechanical Engineering

“Being a recipient of this award means a great deal to me. I believe it recognises my potential and aims to support my ambition to become an engineer.”

“It has given me massive amounts of confidence. As a mechanical engineering student I look forward to learning from industry professionals: The project offers an invaluable opportunity to develop my skills, build connections and gain industry insight. I am grateful for this opportunity and determined to make the most of it.”

Your funding can change students' lives – hear from some of our inspiring scholars

Thank you. Your support has allowed me to study, learn, and build a better future, especially coming from a low-income family. The mentorship is fantastic, and the funding is life-changing. Supporting a scholarship truly makes a difference.

Josh

I’ve always loved problem-solving and understanding how things work but without support, I don’t think I’d be here today.

Benjamin

Coming from a background with financial struggles, followed by war conflict and immigration, the scholarship has been a huge help during a very stressful time.

Tetiana

The scholarship has allowed me to step away from part-time work and focus entirely on university.
